Recognising that young people learn by example, three young Kier apprentices: ground worker Jack Hopkins, carpenter Dan Morgan and plumber Will Hurst, attended Whitecross School’s careers fair to chat to Year 9, 10 and 11 pupils and their parents about their experiences as apprentices on site. The enthusiasm demonstrated by the Kier trainees resulted in several pupils asking if they could visit Oakdale during a working day..
The Oakdale site team were only too happy to oblige. Led by project manager Ron Hobbs, they transformed the site meeting room into a
construction careers centre for the day, while CITB-Construction Skills apprenticeship officer, Chris Gingell, provided expert help and advice about applying and registering for an apprenticeship.
Kier Partnership Homes’ head of construction, Mervyn
Williams, and project manager, Ron Hobbs, welcomed visitors from three local schools and, following a health & safety briefing, the pupils were guided around the site by trainee assistant site managers, Stephen Mooncie, Jack Hindley and Chris Cheek. Pupils had a chance to talk to and see the apprentices at work, as well as enjoy a bird’s-eye view of the site from the partly constructed flats.
Oakdale is a development of two, three and
four-bedroom homes and two-bedroom apartments, which are all built to the high standard expected from Kier Partnership Homes, with beautiful, contemporary
kitchens and a high-quality internal specification. Prices for a three-bedroom home, available to reserve now, start from 139,996 with FirstBuy, the
government-approved equity loan scheme, where you pay from 80% but own 100% of your beautiful new home (subject to status and qualifying conditions).
Nestled between the Forest of Dean and the Severn Estuary, just nine miles from Chepstow, and approximately 20 miles from Gloucester, Lydney is in a beautiful location. The development lies just off the A48 Lydney Bypass, a major trunk route providing access between England and Wales, which makes it convenient for commuting in both directions.
