Kier Living Central was recognised for its outstanding work at Kingsmoor Park in Woking with a ‘Highly Commended’ award in the Development of the Year (51+ units, South) category at this year’s LABC Bricks Awards.
The Bricks recognises and rewards the hard work of registered developers and contractors who stand out from the crowd in delivering high quality construction and design. Now in its eighth year, the LABC have witnessed standards improve year on year despite challenges facing the construction industry over this period. The recognition associated with an LABC Warranty award is prestigious and positions developers and contractors at the forefront of building excellence.
Kingsmoor Park in Woking is a unique Private Finance Initiative (PFI) housing contract worth £78.8m, realised through a collaborative partnership between Kier, Thames Valley Housing Association and Woking Borough Council. Kingsmoor Park provides a mix of house types and apartments, including social rent homes for the council and homes for Open Market sale.
Unique to this development, Kier and Thames Valley Housing Association have formed a special purpose vehicle called Evolution; a 50:50 arrangement through which Kier designs, builds and sells the private homes with Thames Valley Housing Association responsible for housing management, repairs and maintenance over a 25 year period.
Design has focused on delivering contemporary and functional homes while also focusing on the enhancement of greens spaces, integrating landscaping in the form of community squares, village ‘greens’, trees and water features to create this vibrant community for local residents and encourage harmony with the existing natural habitat close by. This new neighbourhood of Woking is linked to the nearby Tudor woodland and draws inspiration from the immediate environment that surrounds it in order to inform the scheme’s unique identity.
Managing Director of Kier Living Central, Chris King commenting on receiving the award;
“We’re very proud of the commendation that Kingsmoor Park has received at this year’s Bricks awards. Kier Living is working hard on this joint venture with Kier Property and partners Thames Valley Housing Association and Woking Borough Council to deliver more quality affordable housing and private sale homes in this much sought after area. Kingsmoor Park is a large, complex development which is delivering high volumes of quality housing to the people of Woking very quickly. This recognition highlights the commitment of the staff on site working day to day to deliver homes that illustrate Kier Living’s focus on quality and design to create vibrant communities and neighbourhoods in places like Woking and also acknowledges the difficulties of delivering those new homes at a challenging pace.”
The award recognises how we are already delivering affordable housing for people in need in Woking and increasing the stock of quality housing for people who want to get on the property ladder or buy a family home. Kingsmoor Park is constantly evolving with people living and benefiting from these new, efficient and contemporary homes already.”
The project is not only developing quality new homes in this area of the South East but is also delivering a further boost to the local community with 14 work placements and up to 15 apprentices being employed as a direct result of the scheme. Kier is working with Guildford College to support local apprentices in the completion of their NVQ, providing the opportunities to work while in training through the development.
