Kier Living unveiled the first phase of The Avenue

Following a 20-year, multi-million-pound clean-up operation, award-winning housebuilder, Kier Living and Homes England, the government’s housing accelerator, have unveiled the first phase of homes on a 240-acre brownfield site in Wingerworth.

Named after the former coking works, The Avenue is a new housing development off Derby Road, that will see Kier Living deliver 252 properties, consisting of two, three, four and five-bedroom homes. 27 of these homes will be available for affordable rent or shared ownership.

Characterised by distinctive buildings, street scenes and structured landscaping, The Avenue is providing high quality, well-designed new homes in the Parish of Wingerworth.

On Friday 22 February, Kier Living and Homes England hosted an event for partners, who have campaigned for the positive change, offering a first-look at the new development, as well as the opportunity to view the new show homes.

Martin Bessant, Regional Director at Kier Living said: “We think the local community will be very impressed by what we are creating here at The Avenue, especially with the overall layout of the development. We don’t follow the norm of packing in as many houses as possible, our aim is to ensure a place has room to breathe and create a genuine sense of place and in this case, adding to what is already a vibrant community. Key to this is the creation of a village green, footpath routes and the tree-lined central avenue, which takes inspiration from the historic Wingerworth Estate where a broad avenue of trees historically ran east from the Hall.

“The unparalleled transformation of this vast site from industrial to residential is a testament not only to our partnership with Homes England, but also to the shared vision and determination of North East Derbyshire Council, Derbyshire County Council and local people, who have fully supported and helped to drive this positive change.”

Barry Cummins, General Manager for Land at Homes England said: “It’s great to see this site being brought back into use, not only to deliver an incredible open space but to also provide much needed homes for the local community.”

The Avenue marketing suite and show homes will be open to the public from Saturday 23rd February 2019.
