Living in Sheffield
With its position in the top 10 biggest UK cities – and as one of the most popular in Yorkshire - Sheffield certainly has a great deal to offer those who live here. The ‘Steel City’ was once famed for its industry, but now is more appreciated for its urban regeneration, culture and impressive amenities. That being said, it does have one of the country’s fastest-growing creative sectors, which is great news for those in this profession looking for new working opportunities.
Sheffield is also a great choice for families, thanks to its wealth of top schools and two popular universities, as well as all the shopping options you could possibly need. The famous Meadowhall indoor mall sits a few miles north of the city centre and is perfect for a little retail therapy, while the centre itself also offers plenty of top stores and all major supermarkets are within reach.
In terms of entertainment, sights and attractions near our new homes in Sheffield, there’s something for everyone. In addition to chain restaurants and bars, Sheffield also has a varied culinary scene with everything from independent eateries to Michelin Guide fine dining. You can also find many museums and theatres where you can learn more about the city’s heritage. The Millennium Gallery for instance is the leading destination for top art and design exhibits.
The nightlife is similarly diverse, but thanks to the city’s many popular bands like Pulp and Arctic Monkeys, the music scene is particularly prevalent. This is perhaps best seen in the plethora of great clubs and venues which showcase major acts, up-and-coming artists and themed events that celebrate Sheffield’s musical history.
Sport is another major draw as there are numerous stadiums dotted around the city and two famous football teams in Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday. There’s also the English Institute of Sport in the city, which is the UK’s biggest multi-sports centre.
The Surrounding Area
When you move to our new homes in Sheffield, you also get to make the most of everything that surrounds you. One of the best elements is the fantastic Peak District National Park, which is only a short journey away – in fact some of the city is technically within its boundaries. This is ideal for lovers of the great outdoors and those who simply enjoy going on pleasant walks.
The many excellent transport options mean you can also get around the city and into the surrounding area quickly and hassle-free. The train station offers direct routes to most major UK cities, while the M1 is only a 10-minute drive from the city centre. The closest airport is Doncaster, but Leeds Bradford and Manchester can also be reached in around an hour. Lastly, Sheffield has its own Supertram network which can make commuting around the city much easier and can help you reduce your carbon footprint.
